Make it a gift

Turn any box into a wrapped present. In Advanced → Gift Box, switch the lid decoration to Bow and turn on Ribbon: ribbon bands wrap down every wall and cross over the lid, and a real standing bow - two upright ribbon loops you can see through, a knot, and trailing tails - rises from the center, just like a hand-tied present. The bow is fully yours to shape: loop size, width, and lean, tail length, width, angle, and height, and knot size are all sliders, so every gift box can carry a different bow. Prefer a softer, sculpted look? Set the wall style to Fluted for vertical ribs that reed around the outside while the inside stays smooth and the wall thickness holds at every valley. A decorated lid prints as a solid lift-off slab, bow up, with no supports at the default sizes; the fluted walls print upright the same way. Two ready-made starting points, Gift Box (ribbon + standing bow) and Fluted Gift Box, are in the presets.

Two-color trick, any single-extruder printer: because the ribbon and bow sit above a known height, watch the layer where the lid's flat top ends and the bow begins, then use your slicer's filament change (M600) at that layer. Load a second color and the box prints in one tone with the ribbon and bow in another, no multi-material hardware needed. On a fluted box you can do the same swap at the rim to accent the top edge.

Hinged lid: one print, no assembly

Pick the Hinged lid style (or the Keepsake Box preset) and the box, lid, hinge, and pin all print as a single part: nothing to glue, nothing to insert, the pin is printed inside its own barrel. The STL exports in its print orientation, lid swung open 90 degrees, so slice it exactly as it imports; no slicer-generated supports needed. The hinge itself is deliberately chunky (a 9 mm barrel with a generous gap) so it works even on a printer that has never been calibrated, and a locating lip on the underside of the lid lands it square every time it closes, so hinge slop never shows.

What to do after it prints: the model includes its own small break-away supports, separate from anything your slicer would add. Snap the thin ties near the hinge knuckles first, then find the two support pillars standing just beyond the ends of the hinge, each has a break-neck at the top and the bottom, so two snaps free the little stick, which pulls out of the gap behind the box. Clean up any stubble with a hobby knife. The hinge pin itself may still come off lightly fused across its own small gap; hold the box and push the lid firmly open and it should crack free with a snap, after which it swings freely. Can I make a storage box with custom compartments?

Yes. Add compartment dividers in either direction to turn the box into a storage organizer, useful for drawer inserts, parts bins, jewelry trays, or desk organizers. Pair with a sliding lid to keep contents enclosed.

Does the hinged box need supports?

Yes, but they're built into the model, not generated by your slicer: small break-away ties near the hinge and two end pillars hold the standing lid rigid while it prints. Slice it exactly as it imports, no slicer-generated supports needed. After printing, snap the hinge ties, snap each end pillar at both its top and bottom neck, pull the small support sticks free, and clean up any stubble with a hobby knife.

My printed hinge won't move. Is it broken?

It's probably not broken. The hinge prints in one piece with a small gap around the pin, and it commonly comes off the plate lightly fused there, along with its built-in support ties. Hold the box and push the lid firmly open: it should break free with a snap and then swing freely. That snap is the hinge releasing, not breaking.

Can I make a decorative gift box with a ribbon and bow?

Yes. In Advanced, set the lid decoration to Bow and turn on Ribbon to wrap ribbon bands down the walls and over the lid, with a standing bow of upright ribbon loops at the center. The bow shape is fully adjustable (loop, tail, and knot sliders), or choose the Fluted wall style for reeded gift-box walls. A decorated lid prints as a solid lift-off slab, bow up, with no supports at the default sizes. Start from the Gift Box or Fluted Gift Box presets. Because the ribbon and bow sit above a known height, you can swap filament color at that layer for a two-tone box on any single-extruder printer.
